With winter here, now is the time to start thinking about how you can protect your business from cold weather conditions.  Protecting your customers, clients and employees is one critical component you need to consider. Snow and ice create dangerous hazards for businesses, since many people often slip and fall on untreated, icy surfaces.  To prevent injuries, you can follow these key steps by Travelers Insurance to eliminate this winter hazard.

• Create and implement a snow and ice removal plan.  This includes determining who is responsible for carrying out the plan. Responsibilities include hiring contractors or choosing your own personnel, ensuring that snow is removed and salt is placed on walkways as well as proper claim handling procedures.

• Assign someone the task of monitoring weather conditions, walkways and the effectiveness of the snow and ice removal.

• Record removal activities in a log.  The log should include names and dates along with the amount of snow and ice, temperature and the removal process.
