Preventing Mold Growth After Water Damage

When water enters and damages your property, mold can also appear if the issue isn’t taken care of immediately.  The water behind your walls or paneling can lead to mold growth and cause a larger problem for you and your home.  To prevent the spread of mold after a water damage event, you should follow these steps:

• Dry the areas right away.
• Check for musty odors that can be a sign of mold.
• Inspect the exterior of your home or building and drain any excess water that has accumulated around the property. This is critical, since water outside can lead to mold that can spread into the inside of the property.
• Replace materials that can’t be fully dried with materials that are less prone to mold.
