Heating Your Business Safely

The winter temperatures cause many businesses to use heating equipment in order to keep clients and employees warm throughout the day. However, just as in your home, there are risks to utilizing this cold weather equipment. The National Fire Protection Association outlines some of the safety precautions your business can take in order to keep everyone warm and safe.
- Anything that can burn should be at least three feet away from heating equipment including portable heaters.
- Have a professional install stationary space heating equipment, water heaters or central heating equipment following the local codes and proper measures.
- Heating equipment should be inspected and cleaned every year.
- Ensure your employees turn their portable heaters off before leaving the building.
- For fuel burning space heaters, always use the proper fuel outlined by the manufacturer.
- Test smoke alarms every month.
Following the proper safety measures for heating your commercial building will ensure a safe and warm space for you and your employees.
